About This Website

This website is a joint project of the Australian and New Zealand American Studies Association (ANZASA) and Australasian high school teachers. The project was developed at a one day conference in July 2005 organized by Douglas Craig of the Australian National University and supported by the United States Embassy.

The aim of the site is to provide resources to encourage and enrich the teaching of the history of the United States in high schools in Australia and New Zealand. The site authors are historians based in universities and teachers, who work in teams to develop resources on particular topics that appear in Australian state and New Zealand curricula. The site provides both overviews and brief summaries of the historiography of a topic, and a selection of short documents from the rapidly proliferating resources available online that can be used in the classroom - documents which are both crucial to an understanding of the topic and likely to engage students.

At present, there are groups contributing to this site working in five areas :

Anyone interested in contributing to the site should contact the appropriate coordinator. We are also interested in feedback on the site; please give us yours here.

The overall project coordinators are Bruce Dennett and Stephen Robertson

The site is hosted by ANZASA and the University of Sydney. The webmaster is Stephen Robertson.
